Dear Friends,
In the past few weeks, two important developments have occurred.
Concerned about the radicalized Ethnic Studies (ES) curricula being pushed into classrooms, Governor Newsom sent a letter to all California districts, reminding them of the importance of keeping biased and discriminatory materials out of the classroom.
In response to the above, Liberated Ethnic Studies activists have launched a campaign to pressure the Governor to retract his directions.
Your action is needed now to counter this campaign. Please take a moment to click here to submit a letter to Governor Gavin Newsom and Superintendent Tony Thurmond, letting them know that we remain unified against Liberated curricula in our classrooms, and they should too.
Over the past year, some local school districts in California have "fallen prey" to Liberated ideology and training in classrooms, especially in Ethnic Studies curriculum development. Liberated ES activists are pushing their agenda and selling their extremist curriculum and training to unsuspecting districts using material that was rejected by the State Board of Education. Click here for examples of Liberated curricula.
These activists explicitly reject California’s Education Code's "guardrails", which state that K-12 education must “[n]ot reflect or promote, directly or indirectly, any bias, bigotry, or discrimination." Insisting that the guardrails are a form of censorship, the Liberated ES activists state that “In a very real sense, the guardrails are themselves a form of bias, bigotry, and discrimination.”
Additionally, one of their letters lashes out at Jewish organizations and emphasizes Liberated’s commitment to teaching the antisemitic and anti-Zionist content rejected from the early drafts of California’s Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum.
We are at a crucial point. Some leaders are beginning to understand the dangers of the Liberated ideology, but Liberated educator-activists are doubling down on their efforts. It's essential that we let the Governor know the importance of standing firm and not caving in to demands to insert politicized and bigoted material into the classroom.
