Don’t Let K-12 Education Be Hijacked By A Narrow Ideological Agenda

What is CRT?
“Critical race theory” refers to an intellectual / social movement and loosely organized framework of legal analysis based on the premise that race is not a natural, biologically grounded feature, but an artificial, socially constructed category that is used to oppress and exploit people of color.

“I write this letter to you with great dismay, and great concern for the perversion of history that is being perpetrated by the Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum (ESMC). If this model curriculum is approved, it will inflict great harm on millions of students in our state.”
— Clarence Jones, speech writer and legal counsel for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
“This is ugly stuff, a force-feeding to teenagers of anti-liberal theories.”
— Wall Street Journal Editorial Board
“This curriculum feels like it is more about imposing predigested political views on students than about widening their perspectives.”
The Concern
Our children are being taught a divisive “critical” ideology that glorifies violent movements, erroneously equates capitalism with racism, sows bigotry and polarizes students.
The Solution
Teach children to be inclusive and pursue understanding through multiple perspectives, celebrate ethnic accomplishments, confront racism and insist on curricula informed by multiple perspectives.

What We Stand For
Ethnic Studies curricula should:
Empower students to dream big, overcome challenges, and be motivated, engaged community members
Build mutual respect, self-confidence, awareness, intergroup understanding and empathy
Elevate ethnic groups, their backgrounds, and contributions without denigrating others
Openly and honestly address racism and discriminatory treatment
Present a range of political perspectives and approaches to bringing about change, including strengths and weaknesses of each
Equip students with the skills to understand and analyze multiple points of view on relevant topics, so that they can develop their own opinions and present well-articulated, evidence-based argument
